Before you start using Zoom, you have to set it up first. That means making an account, downloading the required apps, and taking care of a few basic settings. All you have to do is enter your work email address, activate your account via a link sent to you in an email, and add your name and a password of choice. These include the app for your PC and the app for your Android or iOS device if you plan on joining meetings on the go. You can join a Zoom meeting on your PC without the app, as the software works in a browser.
However, its feature set is limited in this case. For that reason, our advice is to get the app. We recommend uploading your profile image, which will show up in a Zoom meeting when your camera is turned off — making you look more professional. Mute a participant: This feature is only available to a host — the person who starts a meeting. Raise your hand: Whenever you want to speak, you can signal it to the host by raising your hand virtually.
The host will then give you the floor to talk or ask questions. This is a great feature that prevents multiple people from talking at once.
Record a meeting: You can record any Zoom Meeting you enter. Also, keep in mind that the host of a meeting manages this feature. By default, the message will be sent to a group channel, meaning everyone will see it. If you want to join in your browser rather than downloading an app you can click "join from your browser" at the bottom of the screen.
This makes it a better experience for everyone and will allow you to view any resources being shared in the call, such as a presentation. Dialling in with mobile should be saved as a last resort, especially as some meetings may not support it.
If you can join by dialling in, the organiser will have sent you the Meeting ID and number to call when they invited you. Calling into a meeting is simple: just dial the number you were given and enter the Meeting ID when prompted. Once the meeting has started you'll be asked how you'd like to join the meeting audio if you're on a computer.
You should select 'join with computer audio' as below:. You might also be prompted to let Zoom or your browser access your microphone and webcam.
This is necessary for Zoom to work and you should allow it to do so.
